Civic Service & Parade

Hayle Town Council’s Annual Civic Parade and Service took place on Sunday 8 October.   The parade met in Commercial Road car park and included the Mayor and Mayoress of Hayle, the Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress of Hayle, the Chairman of Cornwall Council, mayors and their consorts from neighbouring towns and parishes, town councillors and members of the many clubs and organisations in Hayle, who were all organised by Parade Marshal Roy Hayes.  Hayle Town Band led the parade, which set off for the service at St Elwyn’s Church, with Hayle Surf Life Saving Club carrying the town banner.

The theme this year was Service to the Community and the retiring collection was for St Elwyn’s Church and the Hayle Day Care Centre.  During the service, conducted by Reverend Sharon Clifton, glass plaques engraved with the Hayle Town Council logo were presented by the mayor, Councillor Nick Farrar, to former mayors Robb Lello, John Bennett and Jayne Ninnes who all retired from the town council at the last election.  A highlight of the service was a speech given by Trevor Smitheram, Hayle Citizen of the Year, on behalf of himself and Jenna Fentham, fellow Hayle Citizen of the Year.  He spoke about his passion for our town and his commitment to helping others.

Following the service, the parade returned to the Day Care Centre for light refreshments, which were enjoyed by everyone.

On behalf of the town council, the clerk would like to thank the following people especially: Reverend Sharon Clifton and her team, including the churchwarden Annette Claridge and the organist; Parade Marshal Roy Hayes; members of Hayle Surf Life Saving Club; Hayle Town Band; and Mayor’s Cadet Maddie Thomas, who read the prayer written by the Air Training Corps (Hayle Branch) during the service.
